Hi teachers and students in Kelantan. Selamat Berpuasa and Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri to all Muslims there. We were there on the 4th of April 2009 for the 2nd leg of the Mighty Minds Roadshow. It was good to be back in Kota Baru after a long time. You see, I used to work in Hotel Perdana back in 1989 till 1991. I was the last deejay in Kelantan. Kota Baru is soo nice place unlike what has been potrayed by the Federal Govt. Good job Uncle Nik Aziz.
Anyway, I was inpressed by the excitement built up by the students although I observed that the students were not well versed in English and I was a bit shocked that when the Emcee asked the crowd to give around of "applause" the students were silent until some body shouted out"tepuk tangan". Only then did the kids respond! Oh my God! Are the teachers sent to Kelantan ill equiped to teach even such simple English? Maybe the powers that be ought to look seriously at improving the general grasping of the language and not only the science and maths terminologies in English.
